A University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Advertising and Brand Design student, Ethan Rawlins, has achieved a runner up position in The Sleep Council’s Better Sleep Poster Competition.

The Sleep Council aim to raise awareness of the importance of a good night’s sleep to health and wellbeing. They provide helpful advice and tips on how to improve sleep quality and provide helpful advice on choosing the right bed for optimum sleeping comfort.

Ethan’s entry impressed the judges with his beautiful creative artwork and messaging.‌

He will receive a £500 prize and the University will receive £500 in vouchers.

Ethan said: ‘Taking part in the National Sleep Competition gave me the opportunity to use my skills with graphic design, advertising and branding. I think it helped me with my idea generation skills and to create simple and memorable designs. Creating the campaign with the concept of sleep in mind was a new way of thinking for me. I enjoyed researching and looking into all aspects of sleep in order to create a new visual concept in the poster design’.

Angela Williams Programme Director BA MDes Advertising and Brand Design said: “We are thrilled at Ethan’s achievement in this competition. He has created a simple graphic style that communicates a bold visual message.”

The BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design programme at UWTSD focuses on studying to become a professional creative. The projects encompass all kinds of media, from magazine to social media, radio to TV and from billboards to public events.

The programme is also about communication for business and enterprise. The ‘hands on’ projects include design for branding, creative art direction (working with photographers and video students among others), ‘pitching’ concepts and ideas, marketing strategies and leading innovative new campaigns.
