The Confucius Institutes offer various scholarships for students in Higher Education who have already studied Mandarin for a certain number of hours and passed a certain level of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK=Hanyu shuiping kaoshi 汉语水平考试) or the Chinese Oral Proficiency Test (HSKK=Hanyu shuiping kouyu kaoshi 汉语水平口语考试).

All Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens aged between 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers shall be aged below 45).

1. MA Scholarships in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

The scholarship aims to support students who wish to obtain the degree of Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL).

Eligibility:

Competition is open to outstanding students of Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), outstanding performers on HSK exams, winners of the "Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students, Chinese language teachers worldwide, and applicants with a very good first degree in Chinese Studies.

Applicants for the MTCSOL programmeare required to have a Bachelor's Degree (BA) and have a score of at least 180 on the new HSK (level 5) and at least 60 on the HSKK (Intermediate). Applicants are expected to teach Chinese for at least 5 years after graduation.

2. Scholarship for One-Academic Year

The scholarship primarily aims to support undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to pursue a career in teaching Chinese or any other area related to China. Recipients of this scholarship may primarily study Mandarin or, in case they already have achieved a certain level of Chinese, a subject of their choice such as Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy. Successful applicants will begin their studies at one of the participating Chinese universities in the autumn of  2013.

Eligibility:

Undergraduates and postgraduates enrolled in the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as well as students of the Confucius Institute at Trinity Saint David may apply.

Applicants for the One-year Academic Scholarship are required to have completed at least 120 hours of Mandarin in a Confucius Institute and have a score of at least 180 on the new HSK (level 3) and at least 60 on the HSKK (Elementary).

3. Scholarship for One-Semester

The scholarship primarily aims to support undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to pursue a career in teaching Chinese or any other area related to China. Recipients of this scholarship may primarily study Mandarin or, in case they already have achieved a certain level of Chinese, a subject of their choice such as Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy. Successful applicants will begin their studies at one of the participating Chinese universities in the autumn of  2013.
