Setting out roads including earthworks using co-ordinates - 14 & 15 December

This course will cover the procedures and techniques required to set out a horizontal road alignment using co-ordinates. Secondly to set out the vertical road alignment using batter rails prior to earthwork construction and how to adapt to errors in the Digital Terrain Model (DTM).

NB: It is desirable to have completed the course: Establishing control networks for surveying & setting out which covered the basic concepts and computations that will be used in this course.

A certificate of attendance is issued by Coleg y Cymoedd.

This course is suitable for those who need to be able to set out roads and batter rails using co-ordinates via a Total Station and digital level.

Course Content

On successful completion of the course you will have an appreciation of:

  • the procedures used to provide setting out data for both horizontal and vertical alignment for a road;
  • the practical setting-out of the centre-line for a road;
  • the practical setting out of batter rails for a road.
