Event: Theatre - In Another Man’s Suit: A site-specific performance

Alongside many anecdotes - actual, embellished and imagined - about Dylan Thomas’ life is one that relates to a dinner party held in Cardiff by some of Dylan’s friends. It was a quiet, pleasant affair and as conversation drifted towards silence, Dylan excused himself from the table and didn’t return for some time. In the interim, the rumbling of the plumbing system indicated that a bath was being drawn upstairs and when, at last, Dylan returned it was with tousled, damp hair and he was dressed in one of his host’s suits. No explanation was offered and none was asked for.

This simple idea of borrowed clothes, real and imagined anecdotes and enigmatic images become an interesting access point for a site-specific production at The Tin Shed Museum in Laugharne. The School of Performing Arts will explore the creative tension that existed for Dylan Thomas, between his personal and artistic commitment to Wales and his simultaneous need for a wider national and international audience. It is anticipated that this exploration will investigate differing cultural perspectives on the interaction between art, the artist and the landscape.
