Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
The University offers a number of pathways to support academic and learning support staff in working towards achieving Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship.
For a full description of HEA Fellowship categories and criteria please visit the HEA website.
The University offers the following taught and CPD pathways to HEA Fellowship in addition to direct application to the HEA:
- Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCert tHE) leading to Associate Fellow and Fellow Status (Programme Director: Christine Jones).
- PGCE/PCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) leading to Associate Fellow and Fellow Status (Programme Director: Caroline Usei).
If you wish to apply for Fellowship of the HEA via a taught programme, please contact the appropriate Programme Director.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) pathway
The University has accredited a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework, aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF). This Framework allows staff of the University who are involved in the delivery and/or support of teaching and learning to apply for Associate Fellowship, Fellowship and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Please also see the Continuing Professional Development Handbook (Sorry, this document is only available in English at present).
If you wish to submit an individual Continuing Professional Development application, either in Welsh or English, please express your interest by emailing the HEA CPD Framework Team on email@example.com. You will then be provided with a mentor from within the University, who will already hold recognised HEA status. The mentor’s role will be one of support and guidance.
In your first meeting with your mentor you will agree which Fellowship status is most applicable to your knowledge, skills and experiences. You can use the Self-Assessment Grid (included in the CPD Handbook) to help you to decide which Fellowship status is most appropriate. This exercise will also help you to identify any professional development and training you may need or have an interest in pursuing. The CPD Handbook also explains the dimensions of the UKPSF and gives advice on the evidence you might consider using in your application to be submitted on the appropriate form:
- Associate Fellowship Application Form
- Fellowship Application Form
- Senior Fellowship Application Form
Submission for HEA Fellowship by Oral Presentation, instead of the written application route, is currently under development.
Direct Application pathway
Individuals may also submit an application form directly to the HEA. Application for Principal Fellow must be submitted in this way.
