MCR Silverstone Review 7

The team travelled to Silverstone on Saturday 12th September for the penultimate race event of the season. Once arriving at the circuit, the team spent the rest of the day setting up their pit and the car ready for the sessions on Sunday. After the last couple of double header events, this weekend was a single race event. Qualifying was first thing on Sunday morning, with the race just after lunch.

During qualifying, Tim set a series of consistent timed laps to establish a starting position of 10th for the race. Just before the end of the qualifying session, Tim pulled into the pit lane upon realising that the team was running to much rear wing, causing handling issues and limiting the lap times they could achieve. The team made the required changes and Tim went back out onto the track to re-evaluate the handling of the car before the race.

Between qualifying and the race, the team checked over the car to make sure it was ready for the race. Tim started the race from 10th position on the grid and quickly made it up to 9th.

Unfortunately, Tim then experienced some strange handling issues, which caused the car to spin at two consecutive corners. Not knowing what the problem was, Tim decided to pull off the circuit and retire from the race, to prevent any further damage to the car.

Obviously the team were disappointment to not finish the race but it was the right decision to stop allowing them time to diagnose any problems, without causing any lasting damage. The team are now back in Swansea and are preparing the car for the last race of the season at Brands Hatch on the 24th and 25th October during the Formula Ford Festival.

The team would like to congratulate Patrick Sherrington and MCR Race Cars on securing the 2015 championship title at the Silverstone race.
