The Facts About Fees

The Facts About Fees

This is a short guide created by the University to help students who are applying to UWTSD.

Full Time Undergraduates

Students in Wales pay £3,810 - if you normally live in Wales the Welsh Government pays

the remainder of the fee through a tuition fee grant.

You don’t need to pay anything up front - you can take out a tuition fee loan for the part

of the fee that you do need to pay which you will pay back when you are earning £21,000

or more.

A maintenance loan - helps with your living costs such as accommodation, food, clothes,

travel and other expenses. You will only pay this back when you are earning £21,000 or

more. You could get:

• Up to a maximum of £5,376 if you live away from your parents’ home

• Up to a maximum of £4,027 if you live in your parents’ home

Welsh Government Learning Grant - you don’t need to pay this back! A maximum of

£5,161 per year is available depending on your household income and will be calculated

by your Local Authority. If your household income is £18,370 or less you’ll get the full

£5,161; between £18,371 and £50,020 you’ll get a partial grant.

Special Support Grant - You don’t need to pay this back! The Special Support Grant is

provided instead of the Assembly Learning Grant if you, as a full-time student, may also be

able to claim certain income-related benefits eg, you are a lone parent.

Part-time Students

Many of our programmes are available for part-time study. Part-time students are able to apply
