The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is a dynamic and ambitious institution with campuses in Swansea, Carmarthen, Lampeter, London, and the Wales International Academy of Voice in Cardiff. Our Swansea Campuses are located close to the centre of Swansea, a vibrant, modern and well-connected city. With our exciting new SA1 Swansea Waterfront Campus due to open in September 2018 we are looking to appoint to two posts:

EITHER a Principal Technical Officer (00614) and Senior Technical Officer (Dynamometer) (00615a)
OR a Principal Technical Officer (00614) and Senior Technical Officer (Race Workshop) (00615b)

 

00614 - Principal Technical Officer (Engineering)

With demonstrable experience and technical knowledge in a specific engineering discipline to the School, your main responsibility would be to maintain and manage the operational readiness of the School of Engineering’s workshop facilities by coordinating the operation of all workshops and supervising technical staff to ensure maximum operational availability. This would include coordinating purchasing requirements across all the workshops to ensure all workshops have the required resources and orders for equipment and consumables are properly organised and processed. You will also have an oversight role on the Universities Health and Safety requirements, vehicle legal requirements and operational, training and maintenance requirements and standards to ensure compliance by the School in all areas.

00615a - Senior Technical Officer (Dynamometer)

Your main responsibility will be to co-ordinate, maintain and develop the Engine Dynamometer test facilities in the School of Engineering. This will include providing technical support to student, commercial and research projects utilising the facility. Knowledge of how to run, setup and acquire pressure data from an engine on an engine dynamometer test facility is essential, as it the ability to build, prepare, dress and commission an engine for the running on such a test facility.

00615b - Senior Technical Officer (Race Workshop)

Your main responsibility will be to maintain, develop and set-up the Universities’ Race Workshop and its fleet of race vehicles. This would entail ensuring that the cars are safe, track worthy and in a good state of repair at all times as well as assisting in student projects as and when required. Knowledge of how to run, setup and safely test a high performance vehicle is essential as is the ability and patience to ensure that the facility is always well presented, organised and thus represents the University well as an operational race workshop. Experience using and calibrating modern data acquisition systems is desirable.

• Full Time (1.0 FTE, 37 hours per week), Permanent
• Grade 6, Salary: £29,799 - £33,518 per annum
• Holiday entitlement of 28 days per year
• USS Employer Pension Scheme

The Package - Senior Technical Officer (Dynamometer) 00615a / (Race Workshop) 00615b

• Full Time (1.0 FTE, 37 hours per week), Permanent
• Grade 5, Salary: £25,728 - £28,936 per annum
• Holiday entitlement of 28 days per year
• USS Employer Pension Scheme
