Renewals and reservations

Renewals and reservations

Most items may be renewed provided they are not reserved by another user.

From 1st March 2016, standard loan and 1 week loan items issued to University members will automatically renew 2 days prior to the due date, providing that the items have not been requested by another borrower.  You will no longer need to sign in to your account to renew items manually.

If an item has been requested by another library user, it will be recalled from loan and the item should be returned by the due date.

Please note that if you have overdue items, fines or other issues with your account it may not be possible to automatically renew your loans.

Automatic renewals do not apply to external borrowers who have joined the library through the Libraries Together Passport scheme, SCONUL Access or other membership arrangements.

The maximum length of time any item can be borrowed is one calendar year, except for laptops and computer equipment which can be borrowed for a maximum of 3 weeks if not requested by another library user.  After this period, loans will stop renewing automatically and should be returned.

Restricted loans, short loans and hourly loans (green, yellow and blue band items) are not automatically renewable and should be returned by the due date.
