New School of Early Years Degree at UWTSD

02.06.2016

The School of Early Years at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David are launching exciting new programmes including:-

BA (Hons) Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Practitioner) (2T41) *

BA (Anrh) Addysg a Gofal Blynyddoedd Cynnar (Ymarferydd Blynyddoedd Cynnar) (8X56)*

This new and exciting degree combines both academic study and the award of a BA (Hons) degree with the opportunity to gain an assessed professional competence with equivalence to CCLD level 5.  The degree provides a diversity of employment opportunities in the education and care sectors, as well as developing graduates who may want the opportunity to apply for postgraduate training such as PGCE teacher training.   This programme content provides an opportunity to develop an understanding of the issues linked to working with children and families including the important underpinning values of holistic development, well-being inclusion and safeguarding. Students will also explore leadership and team working in depth and explore different international approaches and curriculum as well as early years work in Wales and the UK.

Students can also study our four year degree which also offers assessed professional competence with equivalence to CCLD level 5.

The Integrated Master’s Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Practitioner) (36K2) *  / Meistr Integredig Addysg a Gofal Blynyddoedd Cynnar  (Ymarferydd Blynyddoedd Cynnar) (38H9) *  is designed for those who wish to gain more research experience and work at postgraduate level.

For those who may already have a CCLD level 5 qualification or who do not want to be assessed for vocational competence there is also the BA (Hons) Early Years Education and Care (95X7)  / BA (Anrh) Addysg a Gofal Blynyddoedd Cynnar (M5Y2) degree which has a more detailed focus on research in the early years.  A four year Integrated Master’s Early Years Education and Care (625X) / Meistr Integredig Addysg a Gofal Blynyddoedd Cynnar (39G2) is also available.

For those already working in the child education and care sector we also offer a unique 2 year fast track provision, which is delivered flexibly one evening a week and on some Saturdays. For the first time these flexible programmes will not only be offered at our Carmarthen campus but also  at our Townhill, Swansea campuses. This allows students to gain a full BA (Hons) in two rather than three years in either:

BA (Hons) Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Practitioner) 2 years (63H7)

BA (Anrh) Addysg a Gofal Blynyddoedd Cynnar  (Ymarferydd Blynyddoedd Cynnar) 2 years (6D23)

BA (Hons) Early Years Education and Care 2 years (87B2)

BA (Anrh) Addysg a Gofal Blynyddoedd Cynnar  2 years (8Q1B)

This is an ideal way to maintain work commitments and have an opportunity at higher level study.

The staff within the School of Early Years have a diversity of career backgrounds from working in education, child protection and health care and this ensures all our programmes take a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach to the study of early years education and care.
