UWTSD looks forward to Global Entrepreneurship Week

10.11.2016

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is looking forward to celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week with a series of events and activities organised across its campuses from Monday, November 14th until Friday, November 18th 2016.

UWTSD is already widely recognised as one of the world’s foremost institutions in creativity-based entrepreneurship education.  The University has spearheaded international efforts to find new ways of supporting students and to equip them for the 21st century working environment, where flexibility and adaptability will be key skills.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is the world’s biggest celebration of entrepreneurship and UWTSD is delighted to be involved once again this year.  Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrates and cultivates the UK’s national entrepreneurship ecosystem and helps people at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey get the help they need.  The University will be encouraging students from all disciplines to think about entrepreneurship and to take part in a range of events across each of its campuses in Swansea, Carmarthen and Lampeter.

Kathryn Penaluna, Enterprise Manager and Associate Professor at UWTSD, says: “Entrepreneurship Week is a real opportunity for us to celebrate what we do here as an integral part of our mission. We are a connected University in every sense when it comes to be being enterprising; we connect with our learners, we connect with businesses and we connect with policy makers in a truly global way.”

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has taken a global lead on innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship education and has challenged many theories of business education.  It has also informed the international entrepreneurial community on approaches for engaging and enhancing creativity in an enterprise context.  As a result of its work in this field, UWTSD has become one of the best higher education institutions in the country for producing successful graduate start-up businesses.

UWTSD is also home to the International Institute for Creative Entrepreneurial Development (IICED) – an institute that builds on the global relationships that have developed by its Director, Professor Andy Penaluna and the subsequent heightened level of expertise that his team has.

In addition to supporting its own staff, students and business start-ups by enhancing their skills and abilities in business innovation; IICED works to improve Global understanding of what it means to be an enterprising educator.

The United Nations’ Chief of Entrepreneurship, Fiorina Mugione, also recognises the University’s contribution and recently chose UWTSD to support the UN’s Empretec programme, a programme which inspires entrepreneurs in developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

UWTSD is proud to be an enterprise focused University and is delighted to be hosting events across its three campuses in Swansea, Carmarthen and Lampeter during Global Enterprise Week.  Sessions range from a workshop entitled I love IP to role model sessions with young entrepreneurs; and from Pizza with a Pro events to digital masterclasses.
