Graduates from UWTSD’s Swansea Business School undertake successful internships

25.08.2017

TWO graduates from UWTSD’s Swansea Business School have undertaken successful internships at a local company, gaining real-world experience.

Jonathan Perez Molina and Glody Bokamano worked alongside staff at Assurance Accountancy, to develop the skills that companies are looking for to succeed in a professional environment.

Assurance Accountancy director Abz Tahar said: “Both interns were self-motivated, punctual and quick learners in our rapidly growing firm.  As a result of their commitment and check boxing delegation of core compliance related activities, we have been able to secure new businesses and increase value in our services to owner managed businesses, tax queries and responding to the governments' new consultations in Making Tax Digital.

“We highly recommend both interns to employers, as well as hard-working and driven to help us with problem-solving, they also delivered fresh ideas in alternative approaches.  They have re-energised our teams, made us feel nostalgic for our own times at University. We wish them the very best and given the opportunity, we would welcome them back in the near future.”

UWTSD’s Manjit Biant, Lecturer in Accounting and Finance (Faculty of Business & Management) and Applied Internships said: “It has been very exciting working with Assurance Accountancy to provide valuable work experience for our students and we will be continuing and developing collaboration between UWTSD and Assurance Accountancy.”

Graduate Jonathan Perez Molina said: “I joined Assurance Accountancy in March 2016 as an Assistant Accountant intern for a year. This internship enabled me to put into practice what I learnt from my course in business and finance at UWSTD.  Shadowing Abz Tahar and the team at Assurance Accountancy gave me a great opportunity to develop business intelligence and commercial awareness before I graduated. It meant I could show that I am a motivated, ambitious individual.”

Glody Bokamano added : “I had a wonderful time in UWSTD and at Assurance Accountancy and I believe both helped to better position myself in the job market and provided me with a clear career goal.

I spent a 3month internship at Assurance Accountancy during my 2nd year and 8 months during my final year. My time at Assurance Accountancy was very valuable as it equipped me with professional skills and experience to position myself ahead of many graduates in the job market. The team was very helpful, supportive and ensured that I was exposed to the most important tasks of business compliance including Tax, VAT, and Payroll and building client retention with commercial awareness and value based approaches.”
