Mission Gallery appointment builds on creative UWTSD partnership

University of Wales Trinity Saint David is delighted to announce that Caroline Thraves, head of the school of Fine and Media Arts at Swansea College of Art has been appointed to the Board at Swansea’s Mission Gallery.

The appointment builds further on the exciting creative partnership that already exists between UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art and Mission Gallery which helps support and showcase emerging talent with exhibitions for students and staff.

Mission Gallery is a contemporary visual art and craft gallery based in Swansea's Maritime Quarter, hosting a changing programme of exhibitions and events. It has developed a reputation for dynamic and distinctive programming, to present excellence across the visual arts, applied arts and craft, from across Wales and beyond.

Caroline Thraves, Head of the School of Fine and Media Arts at Swansea College of Art (UWTSD) said: “I’m thrilled to join the board at the Mission Gallery. The gallery is such an important partner to us at Swansea College of Art, continuously supporting emerging talent with exhibitions featuring both staff and graduates. I look forward to working with the board to continue the excellent work of the gallery.”

Amanda Roderick, Director of Mission Gallery said: “I am delighted, as are all of us at Mission Gallery, that Caroline has joined our Board. Swansea College of Art are our key partners and Caroline in particular has driven this significant support of our Exhibition, Learning and International Residency programmes. The valuable contribution she will bring to further successful creative projects and collaborations, will be part of an exciting future for Mission Gallery.”

Mission Gallery is one of the most inspiring spaces in Wales for the contemporary arts, providing the local and wider community with opportunities to develop their enjoyment, understanding and knowledge of art. Mission Gallery has developed a national and international reputation for presenting dynamic and distinctive programming, taking risks throughout its 40 year history by showing ambitious, diverse work by established and emerging artists across all disciplines, from Wales and beyond. Mission Gallery has a thriving Learning and Participation Programme aimed at all ages and abilities, building strong and lasting cultural partnerships and collaborations within artistic and education institutions.

Mission Gallery is housed in a Grade II listed building in Swansea’s Maritime Quarter and began its existence in 1977 as a voluntary artist run body. It developed into a professional organisation funded by Arts Council of Wales in 2003. Governed by a voluntary board of directors, the management, programming and running is maintained by a small and dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
