Staff and students invited to ‘Meet the Experts’ at Alumni event

Students and staff are invited to attend a “Meet the Experts” Alumni Event in Lampeter on Wednesday 15th March. The event will bring together UWTSD alumni who have gone on to become experts in their field. 

Nikki Cook graduated with BA Archaeology and History in 1992. She went on to receive a PhD in Archaeology from Cambridge University and is now a Project Manager for at Wessex Archaeology. She will be holding a discussion entitled ‘Working for a Consultancy.’  Joining her will be Edmund Simons, who graduated from UWTSD with BA (Hons) Archaeology and Classics and is now the Director of Heritage at the South Georgia Heritage Trust as well as a Reader in Industrial Heritage at the University of Dundee.

This will be followed by “Making a mark in media’ with Richard Osgood and Lisa Miller. Richard is a Senior Archaeologist with the UK Ministry of Defence and has made regular television appearances with Professor Alice Roberts about their work with Operation Nightingale, an initiative that saw ex-service personnel and veterans working alongside archaeologists on excavations, such as an Anglo-Saxon burial ground at Burrow Clump in Wiltshire. He will be joined by his colleague Lisa Miller to talk about the value of making connections and networking for a career in TV heritage and media.

Dr Matt Leivers is a Manager and Finds Specialist at Wessex Archaeology. In addition to his specialist knowledge, Matt also regularly undertakes desk-based assessments for major development projects, as well as outreach work teaching archaeology to both the general public and students at all levels.  Matt will be leading discussion on the last session - “Transitioning to Professional Practice” - how to bring what you are learning into the day to day context.

This event will involve a morning meeting at 10 – 12 with staff in the Canterbury Meeting Room;

and an afternoon lecture and workshop programme for all Lampeter students from 1-4 in the first floor rooms of the Tucker Theatre. Full details are available from our website.
