UWTSD entrepreneur features in Welsh Government Economic Action Plan

12.12.2017

University of Wales Trinity Saint David is delighted to note that Graphic Design student Daniel Huxtable is featured in the Welsh Government’s Economic Action Plan, which was launched today.

The plan contains actions that will work to grow the economy and reduce inequality. It has been developed to meet the needs of today and to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

An acclaimed young martial artist from Swansea, Daniel has combined his passion for martial arts with his love of graphic design for the launch of his bespoke fightwear apparel business.

Fightwear Store UK offers custom designed martial arts and boxing gear which feature Daniel’s exclusive Points Fighter branding. Customers can choose from a large selection of unique clothing, kick boots and gloves, which feature designs including Welsh flags, Japanese anime and camo prints.

Diagnosed with severe dyslexia at the age of 6, he credits his success to the learning environment at Ffynone House School and the ability to develop his design and apply his creativity and enterprise skills at University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Daniel enrolled at UWTSD's Swansea College of Art to study graphic design, where he met Kathryn Penaluna, the Enterprise Champion at the University, who introduced him to Big Ideas Wales and helped him pursue his entrepreneurial dreams.

Kathryn said: “We are thrilled for Daniel. He’s a fantastic example of a student applying entrepreneurial thinking to their studies to start their own business. At UWTSD we embed enterprise into all our courses. Not only does it enhance the student experience, it also increases employability when they graduate. Daniel is one of our success stories and is already acting as a role model to his fellow students. We are all excited to see his business evolve and grow.”

Whilst studying at UWTSD, Daniel has also designed the logo for an Eramus funded project and was also a winner in the University's Simply Do Ideas competition and The Swansea Bay Business Club funded Starship Enterprise competition.
