UWTSD’s Healthy Living Week hailed a ‘huge success’

UWTSD’s Healthy Living Week which was held on the University’s Carmarthen Campus has been hailed as a “huge success” with staff and students taking part in various activities throughout the week.

Action packed and free for all, Healthy Living Week hosted a wide range of activities including sports sessions, group exercise classes, various exercise challenges, and nutritional advice. The week’s main activities took place in the Sports Centre and the Merlin Restaurant on the university’s Carmarthen campus.  A full healthy eating menu was available at the Merlin Restaurant all week.

Activities at the Sports Centre included volleyball, tennis, hotpod yoga, zumba, badminton and outside circuits.  Even the young children from y Gamfa Wen nursery joined in the fun and took part in a special Zumba session.

Jack Tremlett, Sport Centre Manager at UWTSD said:  

“Healthy Living Week was a huge success and I’m grateful to everybody that took part.  It was a week full of sports, physical activity, healthy eating and wellbeing advice.  The week provided the perfect opportunity to shake off any post-Easter indulgence and gave staff, students, local residents and youngsters an opportunity to try out new sporting activities.

We had many people trying out different sports and activities for the first time and that’s what this week was all about.  We wanted to give people an opportunity to try out new sports to see if there’s something they’d like to continue with in the future.  We’re very pleased with the response and we’re very much looking forward to holding similar events in the future”      

During the week various healthy dishes were also on offer at the University’s Merlin Restaurant with Live Cooking also taking place outside on the restaurant’s patio area.

Janine Lewis - Screen Senior Catering Manager at UWTSD added:

“Food education and eating well is now more important than ever.  In preparation for Healthy Living Week our creative chefs came up with a varied and healthy menu to suit everybody.  There was also live cooking outside which proved to be very popular despite the weather.

The week was an opportunity to focus and build your knowledge around healthy eating and wellbeing, as well as consider making positive changes in health behaviours and attitudes towards what we eat and physical activity.  We hope that the menu we had on offer throughout the week showed the variety of healthy food that is available.”
