UWTSD Graduates set up their own Creative Studio

09.09.2015

University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) graduates have launched a new business. Eifion Lloyd James (Lloyd) and Matthew Otten (Matt) who graduated from the Swansea College of Art UWTSD have opened Byji, a creative studio based in Swansea.

The creative duo said: “We think up, create and hand finish charming gifts and other bits and bobs that will put a smile on your face. Being based in South Wales, we are a stone throw away from some of the world’s most beautiful coastlines. When we’re not working away in the studio, we love to pop on our walking boots and go explore the awe inspiring coasts. We’re proud of our little corner in this big wide world; it never stops inspiring us.”

Matt, who studied BA Illustration continued: “My time studying Illustration at Swansea College of Art  UWTSD was brilliant. Having access to great equipment such as the laser cutters, water-jet and printmaking presses meant I could go wild, get my hands dirty, and test out loads of different ideas. The studio environment was an amazing part of the experience. You’d get chatting to your classmates, get inspired and help each other out. The tutors were a great bunch too; they always had time for you and it was really helpful to sit down, have a chat and bounce ideas around.”

Lloyd, who studied on the BA Surface Pattern Design course said: “What was great about studying at Swansea College of Art was the access to the facilities. For me there were two standout parts of Surface Pattern Course. The first was being in the Studio with 100 other students, all bouncing ideas off one another; it was such a creative hub. The second being the tutors’ support and guidance, from how to create a file for the laser cutter to how to set up a website, they cover a lot in such a short time.”
