UWTSD Illustration Student wins National Poster Competition

12.01.2015

A BA Illustration student from UWTSD Swansea has recently won a UK-wide competition with her poster design for the National Student Survey (NSS).

Laura Lettinga, a third year student in the School of Visual Communication, was one of two entrants shortlisted who went on to become the outright winner of this popular competition.

“I’m really pleased to have won this National design competition,” says Laura.  “This was open to students across the UK so it was an honour for me to be shortlisted let alone to win the competition.”

The poster will be displayed in all Universities across the UK encouraging final-year students to take part in the high-profile census which takes into consideration of the opinions of nearly half a million students.  The survey gathers opinions from students about their courses and their institution as well as gauging their student experience and their satisfaction.

As well as being used in the print, Laura’s attractive design will also be used on-line as part of NSS’s campaign.

“We are very proud of Laura’s achievements,” says Derek Bainton, Head of the School of Visual Communication.  “The National Student Survey Poster Competition, open to university students across the UK, was set as a summer project for the BA (Hons) Illustration students here at UWTSD Swansea. There was a great and varied response. Laura Lettinga’s entry in particular, captured a universal quality that students from all disciplines and backgrounds can relate to, in a quirky but concise and contemporary way.”

In her final year studying at UWTSD Swansea’s Dynevor campus, Laura is now starting to think about life after university, but as she says, “as long as I’m drawing, I’ll be happy.”
