27.05.2014

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David presents a Dylan Thomas Gala Concert featuring Siân Phillips and Dennis O’Neill

On Saturday June 7th, legendary actress, Siân Phillips and renowned tenor, Dennis O’Neill will perform in a Gala Concert at St Mary’s Church in Swansea to celebrate the life and work of Dylan Thomas.

Presented by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), the concert will also feature Pontarddulais Male Choir along with students from the Wales International Academy of Voice.

The Wales International Academy of Voice is part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and works with a select number of singers from around the world under the directorship of Dennis O’Neill.  All those studying at the Academy are following a MA course in Advanced Vocal Studies.

“It’s a great honour to work with Siân Phillips and to perform with her in this special Dylan Thomas Gala Concert during the poet’s centenary year,” says Dennis O’Neill, Director of the Wales International Academy of Voice (WIAV).

“It is also a great privilege for the WIAV students to perform with such a high profile and experienced artist as Siân Phillips,” he continues.

“During their studies, the students have had some fantastic opportunities, including master-classes with the Academy’s Honorary President, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and I’m sure that this concert will again stand out as one of the course highlights for all involved.”

With Siân Phillips originally from Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen and Dennis O’Neill originally from Pontarddulais, this Gala Concert will certainly have a strong local celebratory feel and the University looks forward to welcoming the performers back to their home city.

The concert takes place at St Mary’s Church in the centre of Swansea on Saturday, June 7th and starts at 7.30pm

Tickets range from £15 - £20 and can be purchased by calling the Dylan Thomas Gala Concert ticket line on 0300 323 0015 (9am – 5pm Monday – Friday) or by visiting www.ticketsource.co.uk/tsd
