The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is proud to sponsor the Urdd Theatre Company performance of Les Miserables.

This weekend will see 130 young performers take to the stage of the prestigious Wales Millennium Centre to participate in a Welsh medium school version of the epic musical, Les Miserables.

The production is a joint venture between the Wales Millennium Centre and the Urdd - to celebrate the tenth anniversary of opening the Millennium Centre and the Urdd Centre in Cardiff. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is delighted to be able to support the show.

The production - which received the support of Sir Cameron Mackintoch – includes a cast aged 13-19 from across Wales including five students from the University Of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Euros Llyr Morgan, Heledd Roberts, Gwen Edwards, Sion Emlyn Parry and Ffion Jones are all part of the cast and are looking forward to the performance. Euros, Heledd, Gwen and Sion are first year students of the University’s innovative course - BA Perfformio (Performing) – which is offered at Canolfan Berfformio Cymru (The Wales Centre for Performance) located at The Gate in Cardiff. Ffion is studying Performing on the University campus in Carmarthen.

Eilir Owen Griffiths, Performing lecturer at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David said:

"Canolfan Berfformio Cymru (The Wales Centre for Performance) is delighted that our students are part of the Urdd’s production of Les Mis. We are also very proud that Gwen Edwards will be playing one of the main parts. The Wales Millennium Centre is a brilliant platform for young talents here in Wales and we are very lucky to have the support of the Urdd who provide special opportunities for the stars of the future."

Gwilym Dyfri Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor, University of Wales Trinity Saint David said:

"As an organization that nurtures quality graduates in the field of performing arts, the University is extremely proud of its commitment to this project. The young people - including some of our BA Perfformio students – will benefit significantly from this truly unique theatrical experience."

The Les Miserables project is being led by Cefin Roberts, Director of Ysgol Glanaethwy and his team of experienced coaches including Carys Edwards, Rhian Roberts and Director of Music, John Quirk. The first Welsh performance of Les Misérables by the Urdd Theatre Company took place in the Wales Millennium Centre in 2005. This year will be an opportunity for a new generation of young performers to experience the same thrill.
