UWTSD students nominated for Fire and Rescue Service Awards

18.11.2014

On Thursday the 20th November students and staff from the UWTSD public service programme we will be attending the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MWWFRS) Annual Awards Ceremony.

Two Public Service Students, Dale Craven and Chris Keber have been nominated for their volunteering work with METFIRE.

METFIRE is a student volunteer scheme that was set up between the University and MWWFRS in 2013. The scheme sees volunteers vetted and trained to help with community projects such as Phoenix courses and Arson Reduction courses working with disengaged young people.

They are also involved in open and information days to educate the community about fire safety.

The scheme has been very successful and has also been nominated for an award.

Bronwen Williams, Public Services lecturer at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David said, "We are extremely proud of our volunteers and the success of the scheme, which gives students valuable insight into the profession and builds up their employability skills and profile."
