Royal Society. Philosophical Transactions.London, 1665.
The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, first published in 1665, is the world's longest running scientific journal. French locksmith Besnier began training for his flight first by springing from a pretty high window, then from a window in a second story, and at last from a garret, from whence he flew over the houses of his neighbours, landing without a scratch. In 1589 in Conway John Williams made one of the earliest recorded flights by a Welshman. He plummeted and was emasculated on impact - he later became Archbishop of York.
