Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802), grandfather of Charles, was a physician, natural philosopher, inventor and poet. The chief source of his literary fame during his lifetime was The Botanic Garden in which he describes plant reproduction according to the Linnaean system. William Blake engraved five plates for the poem.
