John Savage. Some account of New Zealand. London, 1807.
This account by John Savage (1770–1838) is the first book devoted to New Zealand. It describes not only topography, but also the customs, language, arts and government of the islands before white settlement. On his return to England, Savage took with him a Maori named Moehanga (Moyhanger), the first New Zealander to visit England. The book includes a description of Moyhanger and his stay in London.
