Alan Hughes

Lecturer and programme director.

Programme director for Motorsport Management and Logistics and Supply Chain Management undergraduate programmes.  Senior Lecturer in Logistics, Transport and Motorsport Management.

Alan is a logistician with over 20 years managerial and industry experience turned academic. He works closely with companies in both logistics and motorsport industry sectors. 

He was a regional committee member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).  Alan now works very closely with the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) and other motorsport companies. 

 He has worked full-time at the University of Wales Trinity St David for 19 years.

Former member and Welsh regional committee representative of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) until September 2011.

Interested in all aspects of logistics and motorsport management.

Recent undergraduates dissertations supervised include:

  • Is the Formula E motorsport championship a sustainable resource for the future of low carbon racing?
  • Improving customer service in retail home delivery operations.
  • Can sport promote community regeneration: a case study of the proposed ‘Circuit of Wales’?
  • An investigation in to running single manufacturer championships in motorcycle racing.
  • Consumer motivation for attending British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) events.
  • Do user body campaigns, such as the Motor Sport Association (MSA) effect volunteerism in motorsport?
  • Increasing female participation in UK kart racing.

Extensive knowledge and experience in logistics and supply chain management.
