Abstract

Around 1 in 5 people in Wales do not use the Internet and are digitally excluded. The digitally excluded are in danger of being left behind as services increasingly go online. This presentation discusses what is meant by digital inclusion and competence. It outlines recent developments in the field including the launch of Digital Communities Wales and the Welsh Government delivery plan. Although good progress has been made over recent years in reducing those who do not use the Internet, the digital divide(s) remains a reality. The presentation explores the challenges facing Wales today and focuses on research possibilities linked to the Centre’s Special Interest Group.
