Abstract

In our joint paper we will look at how the experience of editing or publishing in an undergraduate journal has impacted on students’ attitudes toward academic writing and the development of writing skills. Based on semi-structured interviews with present and past student editors and contributors we aim to analyse what exactly they regard as beneficial about their involvement in an undergraduate research publication and how this has affected their skills development. We will correlate our own findings with studies undertaken in this area. We will conclude our paper by asking what conclusions from The Student Researcher Experience can be drawn for the implementation of block (immersive) teaching on the Lampeter Campus. What role can or should writing for publication play in an immersive undergraduate curriculum?
