Abstract

Teaching and Learning in an arts-based context This short paper (10 mins) will introduce the particular context of Hereford College of Arts, and present an overview of the particular learning and teaching pedagogies within the creative arts context, linking this to ideas of rhizomatic learning (Cormier, 2010), self-efficacy (Ritchie, 2016), embodied learning and the use of self-reflective characterisation in the studio to promote dialogue. It will briefly consider ideas of the ‘vocational’ curriculum and how presenting a range of strategies to support students in engaging with a challenging curriculum might also support them in relating theory to practice .
