Making Effective Use of the Early Years PDG: A Resource for Leaders and Practitioners

This resource has been produced to assist Early Years practitioners and leaders in making effective use of the Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant.

It draws upon evidence from research, inspection and professional practice in Wales and other countries and includes case studies of effective practice.

What really works for the early years?- Guidance for the Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant

This guide is intended to give schools and settings practical advice on how to use their Pupil Deprivation Grant to best effect.
Dr Sarah Chicken, Professor David Egan, Alys Parkins, Professor Iram Siraj and Dr Jane Waters at the Wales Centre for Equity in Education, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, undertook the preparation of this guidance for the Welsh Government.

On December 4th, WCEE hosted a seminar on the topic of High Reliability Schools (HRS) which is being introduced to schools throughout Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Powys.

Seminar - Lessons from London schools for attainment gaps and social mobility 7th November 2014

On November 7th WCEE held a seminar at Cardiff City Hall based on the recent Institute for Fiscal Studies report on the performance of London schools in terms of reducing attainment gaps. 

Good News - What schools in Wales are doing to reduce the impact of Poverty on pupil's achievement

Our report published in December 2014 examining how some schools and community settings in disadvantaged areas of Wales are successfully reducing the effect of poverty on educational achievement.

Reducing the impact of poverty on educational achievement - Policy Observatory Report

This report features 12 case studies based on various schools and settings who are successfully overcoming some of the barriers facing disadvantaged learners.

It is aimed at:

  • schools
  • regional education consortia
  • the Welsh Government.

The schools and settings were selected by the Policy Observatory Project to draw out common themes in their approaches.

The report was produced by the Wales Centre of Equity in Education and funded by the Welsh Government.

Raising Educational Attainment through Family Engagement seminar report

In April 2014 we published a resource to help education leaders and practitioners to make effective use of the Pupil Deprivation Grant. This user-friendly guide includes practical advice on how to best target the grant, plan interventions and monitor and evaluate their impact.
