Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) Degree Apprenticeship
An Ordnance Munitions and Explosives career is challenging, stimulating and dynamic. A fully competent OME Professional can work in a wide range of organisations, including defence, chemical, commercial, military, security, nuclear and analytical services (from multi-nationals to SMEs) and government bodies (e.g. MoD).
Although there is a close collaboration between these organisations, the needs and requirements are different for each. OME professionals working within one of these organisations may move between government and industry and, as such, are central to maintaining national security now and in the future.
Forge your future career in one of 5 OME pathways delivered in UWTSD:
- Technical, Research and Development
- Manufacturing and Processing
- Breakdown and Disposal
- Test and Evaluation
These programmes have been developed with employers to ensure that they will meet your career development needs. They have been recognised and accredited by the Institute of Explosives Engineers (IExpE). You will be registered as student members of the IExpE and completion of the Apprenticeship will lead to professional registration with IExpE. The programmes meet the specification of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education OME Professional (ST0574) and the SEMTA Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Degree Apprenticeship Framework (FR04429).
The Apprenticeship runs over 5 years with off the job training taking place on a block release basis in the University’s IQ Building on the new SA1 Campus in Swansea. Apprentices are be supported throughout their programme by a Training Adviser familiar with the sector, who will visit the workplace regularly, providing the link between the academic studies and workplace learning, and addressing any issues that may arise during the programme.
In January 2021 we also offer the Level 4 (HNC) Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives Higher Apprenticeship.
