The Surface Pattern Degree Show 2018 presents the work of twenty-four completing 3rd year BA students, and seven 4th year MDes students. This exhibition is a celebration of their individual journeys.
To get to this point, the students have undertaken a wide variety of challenging learning experiences offered to them by the Surface Pattern programme. They are well versed in an impressive variety of design and making skills, enabling them to produce the exquisite work you see on display. Their creativity, their innovation, and the high standards they have achieved make them ready to pitch to their chosen markets and audiences.
The work addresses multiple and far-reaching contexts –applications to fashion, interiors, design object and stationery. The work is materially adventurous, utilising the most delicate and intricate fabric finishes to diametric qualities achieved using enamel, glass, steel and wood. The students freely explore the space between digital and hand skilled processing, questioning, challenging and discovering, creating their own design processes, and individual visual language.
Our Surface Pattern Design students will be exhibiting at New Designers part 1: 27 June - 30 June.
