Professor Ian Walsh
Professor Ian Walsh BA(Hons), PhD, FRSA obtained his first degree in 3D Design from the University of Wales, Newport in 1988 and his PhD entitled ‘nurturing innovation in industrial design - quantifying innovation propensity in industrial design by means of a novel innovation trait index’ from the University of Wales, Swansea in 2008.
Ian is currently Dean of Swansea College of Art at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Ian is also Director of the Institute for Sustainable Design and Principal Investigator for the Cerebra Innovation Centre.
He has over 25 years experience as a designer, academic and researcher and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA)
Ian's current research interests include the role of design thinking in assisted living and nurturing innovation in individuals and organisations.

Institute for Sustainable Design (ISD) ERDF - grant of £2,683,791.00 to support the delivery of the Institute for Sustainable Design. The total size of the project was £4,710,076. The project was delivered in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University. Value: £2,683,791.00 over 45 months from 1st Oct 2011.
Design for Successful Aging (DSA) KEP - In partnership with Cerebra, PDR at Cardiff Met University and the University of Glamorgan. An 18 month KEP in the area of posture support and management. The KEP received strong endorsements from key policy advisors within the Welsh Assembly Government. Value: £149,500.00 over 18 months from Oct 1st 2010
Beacons for Wales - Public Engagement Grant to deliver ‘Design Against Crime’ workshops with Ysgol Maesydderwen and local youth groups in Swansea. Value: £9,000.00 over 12 months from Sept 1st 2010
Graphic Arts in Manufacturing (GAIM) - In partnership with Swansea University and Coleg Sir Gar the School of Industrial Design and Welsh School of Architectural Glass are working on a project to develop a ‘road-map’ for engagement with industry in the area of ‘product decoration’.
