UWTSD Home - Study With Us - Undergraduate Courses - Law and Legal Practice (BA)
Since 2015, UWTSD has offered a range of law joint honours degrees, coupled with Public Services, Business, Policing and Criminology.
In 2018, the Solicitors Regulations Authority (SRA) announced the plan to dispense with multiple routes into practice and instead to introduce a single entry point with the Solicitors Qualification Exam (SQE).
This means that universities no longer have to be accredited to offer a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD), nor do students need to have a QLD or the Legal Practice Course (LPC). Students just need to have been taught the knowledge needed to pass the SQE.
This new course, BA Law and Legal Practice (coupled with its associated intermediate awards of a DipHE and CertHE) proposes to combine the foundations of law, already delivered in the joint honours degrees, with essential and corresponding practice modules, thus making it SQE compliant. This will make it easier for students to enter the SQE and remove the need for the LPC.

This new programme will prepare students to sit the Solicitor’s Qualifying Exams and has been designed around this national framework. It is entirely focused on employment or self-employment within legal practice. This can only enhance the student’s prospects and make them more competitive within the legal profession’s recruitment programmes.
