Inspirational Blog from our final year BSc Computing student Ewan Richards 👏 Overcoming challenges and accessing learning support at UWTSD.

"Many students who have additional learning difficulties and disabilities find it difficult to study a University degree. As an autistic student, I understand what barriers students are challenged with. I find some things quite overpowering sometimes and the University have helped me immensely as they have helped me improve my confidence by making me an equal part of the University environment.
I have access to a range of support at the University such as study skills, assistive technology training, time management, and improvement with my academic writing. All of this support, with thanks to the Student Services team, can point you in the right direction and are more than willing to assist students. Thanks to the support team, they have helped me to develop my confidence and communication skills and I have been involved in a range of University opportunities such as being a student ambassador, assisting at virtual open days and being asked to be on a feedback focus group for the Student Hwb. I also work with a Study Assistant who encourages me, revise research skills and assist me with understanding assignment scenarios and breaking big tasks into much smaller and manageable tasks.
Students with learning difficulties discuss their needs with one of the University’s Disability Advisors who can discuss what’s available for the student. You’ll be enriched with methods, strategies and improved levels of confidence. We also have a Career Service for those who need assistance with generating future ideas, understanding your options, creating CV’s and effective job searching. You can find out more by visiting Student Services
I hope this blog will make you feel more at ease about considering Higher Education and that support is there for you! As a University, whether it’s online or on campus, we’re always on your side.
