Welsh Government Master's Bursaries 2018/19

Awarding criteria:

The eligibility criteria for the bursaries are the same as for the Welsh Postgraduate Loan:

  • Welsh/EU domiciled students.
  • Under the age of 60. 
  • Available to those who do not already possess a Master's level qualification (PGCert and PGDip holders are eligible for the loan).
  • Non-means tested (not dependent on your family's income).
  • Both taught and research Master's courses are eligible, including MA, MSc, LLM, MRes, MPhil, MA by Research, and MSc by Research courses. (PGCE, PhD, Integrated Masters and PG Diplomas will not be eligible)

Faculty of Business and Management Postgraduate Progression Bursary

Available to those UK/EU students progressing from a full-time or part-time undergraduate programme within one of the Faculty’s Academic Schools onto a full-time or part-time postgraduate programme within the same School (10 awards available).

Awarding criteria:
Available to UK/EU citizens who have completed a full-time or part-time undergraduate degree and who are applying to undertake one of the following specialisms on the Secondary PGCE at UWTSD:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • ICT
  • Design & Technology

(12 awards available)

Applicants must have a grade B in GCSE English and Maths and a grade C in Science.

Award amount:
Up to £750.

Awarding criteria:
Available to those UK/EU students progressing from a full-time or part-time undergraduate programme within UWTSD to either the PGCE Primary or the PGCE secondary programme.

12 awards available - 6 of these are specifically for students who are studying at undergraduate level within the Athrofa.

Applicants must have a grade B in GCSE English and Maths and a grade C in Science.

Up to £500.

Postgraduate Childcare Bursary

Awarding criteria:
Open to campus-based postgraduate students. This bursary is means-tested.

Eligible students are those not in receipt of Child Care Tax Credits.

This bursary is paid in two instalments – 50% semester 1 & 50% semester 2.

Award amount:
Up to £500.

Postgraduate Distance Learners (UK & EU)

Awarding criteria:
This is a dedicated bursary for students enrolled on a taught-Masters course as Distance Learners.

This bursary is awarded as a fee reduction in 3 termly instalments across the academic year and awarded pro-rata with the intensity of study e.g. students enrolled part time studying 60 credits in an academic year will receive a reduction of £500 per year for two years.

Up to £1,000.
