This unique programme is designed to increase your chances of gaining entry into your first choice degree. We will develop your knowledge and ability in the core concepts, theories and underpinning knowledge of nursing and related subjects while training you in the skills needed to succeed in higher education.

The Cert HE Nursing Studies and Health Programme is offered as a ONE YEAR flexible route qualification. This means you are able to keep applying to your first choice degree while you study with us and leave the course at the end of year one or two depending on when you gain your place.

First Year

  • Personal and Academic Development (PAD)
  • Communication and Counselling
  • Workplace Practice
  • Managing Organisations
  • Introduction to the Physiology of the Body (‘Physiology I’)
  • Introduction to Health Research

We know that you do not want to give up on your goals – and we are here to work with you to reach them, no matter what barriers you may have had in your way.

We offer flexible programmes which work around you and your life as much as possible. All our courses are offered as FULL or PART time programmes.  We offer flexibility within all our part-time routes across all our programmes within the Health Portfolio.

Applicants will require AT LEAST ONE of the following:

  • 32 UCAS points or equivalent.
  • Or BTEC PASS
  • Or at least three years’ experience in related setting (this could include entrance interview and written test depending on your employment experience)
  • Or Access Diploma at 45 PASS credits
  • Or independent applicant (i.e. over 21 years old) with relevant life experience*
  • DBS update system a requirement for ALL UWTSD applicants

*You may be given pathway options in this instance.

We have a very strong employment support and work experience system within the Health Portfolio. We work with three health boards as well as a variety of public and private organisations, companies and charities in the Health Sector within West Wales to build opportunities for all our students. 

This course has a particularly high rate of higher educational progression, with around 85% of our first years students leaving to accept places in general adult nursing, pediatric nursing, paramedic science, midwifery and occupational therapy across the UK.

This programme offers an academically challenging, vocational experience which incorporates innovative teaching and assessment methods.

The opportunity to take on public or voluntary sector work experience is a key theme throughout all our programmes. We will work with you to find the placement which suits your future goals. We have links with three health boards in Wales, as well as a variety of health organisations and charities.

We are proud of our strong student support and study skills development programme. We will also equip you with wider skills such as interview skills, mentoring and life coaching skills within the first year.
