The course is designed to develop your practical skills and theoretical knowledge at delivering high quality and inclusive physical activity and sporting experiences for young people.

You will be supported in your studies by a team of highly inspirational academic staff who have extensive experience of working and researching in the fields of physical education and sport.

The course is delivered within the high-quality campus facilities in Carmarthen and the extensive equipment base including areas such as competitive sport, health and fitness and adventurous activities.

On graduating you will be able to progress to the Diploma or BA degree programme in Physical Education.

What you will learn

Course Overview

The certificate in Physical Education has a fundamental focus on learning, teaching and coaching issues, with many modules offering practical teaching experiences with young people in a range of activities, including games, swimming, and adventurous activities.

Issues of inclusion, entitlement and differentiation are embedded in many of the modules, and several assessments require students to plan and evaluate their own and others' teaching and coaching.

The current sport, health and outdoor adventure activities focus of physical education is strongly represented in the overall content of the programme.

The programme has a main focus on presenting students with inclusive learning, teaching and coaching strategies in order to be able to provide positive experiences for young people in physical education and sport.

The course integrates the latest technologies to support students in a blended learning experience that merges both online and face to face delivery. Additionally, strong links with local schools and physical education departments across the region enable extensive placement opportunities for students.

The course will be delivered through 6 modules over 2 semesters.

  • Learning in the Digital Era
  • Facilitating Adventurous Activities
  • Introduction to Health and Exercise Psychology
  • Human Physiology and Fitness
Assessment

The certificate is predominantly assessed through course work.
