Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Scholarships

Want to help continue the beautiful tradition of the Welsh language? At UWTSD, we’re committed to helping students study in Welsh – either fully or partially – by offering support and bursaries to our Welsh-speaking students.

The Main Scholarship by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, worth £1,000 a year, or £3,000 over three years, is for students who intend to study at least 66% (or 80< credits per annum) of their course in Welsh.

The Incentive Scholarship by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol worth £500 a year, or £1,500 over three years, is for students who intend to study at least 33% (or 40< credits per year) of their subject in Welsh.

Need a little refresher? Our state-of-the-art language centre Rhagoriaith offers language training to staff and students – and provides a range of services related to the Welsh language.

The Main Scholarship worth £1,000 a year (or £3,000 over three years) for those students who intend to study at least 66% (or 80 credits per annum) of their degree course through the medium of Welsh.


40 credits per year available through the medium of Welsh
All University courses with at least 40 credits available through the medium of Welsh are eligible for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Incentive Scholarship.


80 or 120 credits per year available through the medium of Welsh
The following courses are eligible for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Main Scholarship. 80 credits or 120 credits per year available through the medium of Welsh:


The University also has a Welsh Medium / Bilingual Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who conduct all or part of their studies through the medium of Welsh / bilingually – £50 for every 10 credits successfully completed through the medium of Welsh / bilingually (50% of modules must be bilingual).

Award Amount: Up to £600 a year for 3 year courses or £900 in intensive two year degree programmes.
