The University has a well-established, professional Counselling Service.
All our Counsellors work in accordance with the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
UWTSD was ranked #1 out of 45 institutions for 'Counselling' in the autumn 2016 Student Barometer.
There is a high level of confidentiality which is explained in the initial session, and outlined in both the Service’s Confidentiality Statement and the companion document entitled the counselling service contract.
The Counsellors endeavour to create a welcoming environment and to listen in a non-judgemental way to enable you to talk about your feelings and experiences. It is a collaborative process concentrating on what is important to you. Counselling goes at your pace and according to your needs.
On the Carmarthen and Lampeter campuses, counselling is available in both Welsh and English.
Counsellors provide the following:
- Individual counselling sessions
- Presentations to new students and to new staff during induction
- Information on a variety of topics
- Delivery of staff development sessions as required
- Referral, as appropriate, to colleagues in the University and to external agencies
- A consultative role for staff
- Occasional sessions to student groups
- Mentoring and supervision as required
- Contribution to University policies
- Effective liaison with the Mental Health Advisers, the Students’ Union, the Chaplaincy and the International Office
