New Language: New Opportunities

Learn Welsh: on our Summer Course

15th - 19th July 2019

The University is located in the heart of Welsh speaking Wales, providing learners with ample opportunity to practise the language.

Where better to learn Welsh?

Come to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David on the Lampeter campus to learn Welsh quickly, in a relaxed atmosphere with the help of experienced Welsh language tutors.

You will acquire a full understanding of the language, its grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation patterns. There will be an emphasis on developing your communicative effectiveness, helping you develop your confidence, fluency and ability to use the language outside the classroom. Small classes ensure a high level of individual attention with emphasis given to pair and group work.

We try to make the learning experience fun and challenging at all times, to motivate you to work hard and get results! You will be in a group of students who share the same goal of wanting to achieve fluency and success in Welsh.

We have computer facilities for individuals staying on campus and the University Library is available during normal opening hours for study purposes. Become part of a friendly, demanding, but enjoyable study environment - the perfect way to learn Welsh!

The course will give you a firm foundation for further study and language acquisition. The committed learner with no previous knowledge of the language should be able to hold a basic conversation with a sympathetic first-language speaker by the end of the course. The course provides the experienced learner with an ideal springboard to complete fluency.  A certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the course.

The following groups are normally available, subject to the number of students attending:

Group 1: This level is suitable for individuals with no previous knowledge of the language. Great emphasis is given to spoken Welsh.

Group 2: The aim of this level is to extend the speaking skills of the learner. It is suitable for those who understand a little Welsh.

Group 3: This level is for the relatively confident Welsh learners. Emphasis is given to spoken Welsh, but sessions will also aim to develop writing, reading and listening skills. Individuals studying for the Certificate in Practical Welsh Intermediate level will participate in this group.

Group 4: This level is for learners who are fairly fluent in Welsh. The lessons will aim to continue development of oral skills and encourage further writing in Welsh.

Group 5: Cwrs Gwella Sgiliau IaithMae’r cwrs hwn yn addas ar gyfer Cymry Cymraeg a dysgwyr sydd wedi cyrraedd lefel hyfedredd. Bydd y dosbarthiadau’n canolbwyntio ar wahanol bwyntiau gramadegol ac amrywiaeth o gyweiriau. Bydd y cwrs hwn yn eich cynorthwyo i adnabod a chywiro’r gwallau mwyaf cyffredin yn eich gwaith.
