Igniting Potential ~ Enhancing Employability ~ Providing Opportunities
The ‘TechStars Innovation Comp’ showcases innovative computing solutions from students studying at UWTSD's School of Applied Computing.
The TechStars Competition is part of the Innovation Group Project module that enables and supports students to form interdisciplinary teams, discover and unleash their potential, develop enterprising innovation & employability skills and to pitch their innovative ideas, prototypes and Tech Start-Up plans to a panel of experts from industry.
The Competition is a student engagement and community involvement event sponsored by inspiring industry partners keen to support new innovative initiatives, employ new graduates, provide work experience opportunities, work on collaborative final year projects and contribute to the development and growth of our students and our community.
Winning students have received seed funding to develop their prototypes, create Tech Start-Up Companies, employ local graduates and enhance our economy.
Head of School Professor Ian Wells “The School strives to include the principles of Entrepreneurship in all that it teaches. This exciting event highlighted some of the very innovative ideas that our students can produce, many of which were commercially viable propositions.”
Welsh Government Enterprise Manager Anne Swift added: “It was my pleasure to attend Techstars. It is a great event giving students the opportunity to develop and practice their entrepreneurial skills within their course subject. All of the teams presented innovative business opportunities as well as some really viable products that could be taken forward into real businesses. I hope the event has opened up the students eyes to the possibility of starting their own business one day as well as highlighting how they could use the skills to identify opportunities for future employers.”
