Ivana Curcic MSc, MA, BA Hons
Academic Liaison Librarian
Tel: 0207 566 7616
At the London campus, I share the position of Academic Liaison Librarian with Peter Duffield-Fuller. Two days a week, I provide specialist support for the learning and teaching activities of the Business Programs.
As part of the Academic Liaison Team I develop curriculum focused digital and information literacy skills, provide resources support and advice for the design, planning, validation, delivery and review of Faculty courses and programmes.
Throughout the students’ gathering, evaluation and presentation of information and knowledge, I support them with information literacy activities that develop them both as researchers and citizens. These activities include use of academic databases, access and evaluation of online resources, search skills.
After receiving my MA in Applied Linguistics in 1989, for over a decade I taught ESOL and study skills at university level in the US (Washington, D.C., California and Massachusetts). I had also worked as a translator (English, Serbo-Croatian and Italian) and taught and managed employment and education programs for refugees and immigrants. It was while collaborating with librarians, designing activities for my students, and with the spread of the Internet that I was inspired to complete my MSc in Library and Information Science in 2003. As a librarian, I continued teaching for the next seven years, but this time information literacy skills at secondary school level in Boston and London. I worked then in a London dual use library as a school librarian but eventually covered all aspects of a public librarian’s job. I started my job at UWTSD in January 2018 -- happy to be back in Higher Education sector, having made a full circle!
My professional interests include literacies (information, digital, and media), learning processes (such as language acquisition and inclusion) at all ages and stages of life, and design and usability.
