No, however we will assess your request against the library's existing collections and your level of study and you may be asked to meet / speak with your subject librarian for a consultation.
If you think you will require a large number of items for a specific research project or assignment, please contact your Subject Librarian to discuss.
For the most part, the service is paid for by the Library. However we will assess your request against the library’s existing collections and your level of study and we may refuse your request based on cost or ask you to undertake a consultation with your subject librarian first. Please be aware though, that it costs the library approximately £15 per book and £9 per scanned article to request items from other institutions.
If you are a Postgraduate Distance learner or Research student, we do charge a small fee for scanning print items held by the library. A charge of 10p per scanned page will be added to your library account. If we post books out to you, we charge postage at the follwing rates:
Within the UK: £4 per package up to 2kg
International: between £4 and £16 depending on weight. Usually £8 for one book.
Payments to library accounts can be made in any of the following ways:
By post: please send a cheque made payable to 'University of Wales Trinity Saint David' and post it to the relevant campus library.
In person: at the library desk with cash or cheque or the self-service machine by card.

This depends on the specific item’s availability however as a guide, we would suggest you allow two weeks from submitting the request. We will endeavour to let you know if there are any delays.
We suggest you place a hold on the item via the Library Catalogue. You can also request the item if you think we do not have enough copies. We may then purchase additional copies.
Yes, you can apply for SCONUL Access. The level of access provided will depend on your status. You may also apply to use the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth (requires a home address in Wales) or the British Library. For further information see the Using other Libraries section of the website.
No, we’re afraid not. These services can only be provided to students on registered Postgraduate distance learning courses or those undertaking a Research degree.
You can use the online form to request interlibrary loans for your own work-related research. However if you want to order something for purchase, please see the Ordering Library Resources section of the website. If you're looking for scanned items to be used for education purposes, please use the digitisation service.
No, we’re afraid not. Copying for commercial purposes, whether in print or electronic format, is not covered by the exceptions to copyright in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988
The terms of the CLA Higher Education Licence place certain limits on the purposes for which we can supply print or scanned copies. By checking the box at the bottom of the request form, you indicate that you accept these terms.
No, I’m afraid not. According to the terms of our licences, download must be by the end user only so we cannot do this for you. However if you are experiencing problems accessing any of the library’s e-resources please let us know so that we can investigate.
We would expect that all items of essential reading are available in the library and most items of further reading. Therefore please do request these items if they're not in stock.
Please ensure that you have downloaded and tested the relevant software before making a request.
Electronic documents from the British library:
- must be downloaded within 30 days of receiving the notification email;
- can only be downloaded onto a single machine;
- can only be printed once;
- cannot be shared with others;
- will normally expire 3 years after being downloaded.
First of all, please check your email (including the junk folder) to ensure that you have not received any additional correspondence from us about the request.
If not, please contact us, providing the details of your request, preferably the request number that was on your confirmation email.
As a general rule, no we’re afraid not. However in some cases we may allow this if there is a good reason. If you think you will need a renewal please contact us know as soon as possible to discuss options. Any fines or charges that are accrued by returning these items late, will be added to your library account and we reserve the right to refuse future requests.
