BA Perfformio (Performance) students present ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’

Canolfan Berfformio Cymru (The Wales Centre for Performance) is performing the play I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change on Thursday 25th February 2016 at the Chapter Art Centre in Cardiff.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change will see the BA Perfformio (performance) students presenting a celebration of the mating game, taking on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as ‘The Relationship.’

The show is the final assessment for the students’ “The Words and the Music” module that introduces elements of singing as part of the actors training.

I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is a musical comedy with book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts. It is one of the longest running Off-Broadway musicals.

Act I explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, while Act II reveals the agonies and triumphs of the in-laws and new-borns, trips in the family car and pick up techniques of the geriatric kind.

The play pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen flat on their face in the doorway of romance and to those who have dared to ask…“So, what are you doing Saturday night?”

Jemima Nicholas, first year BA Perfformio said: “I really enjoyed the process of producing the show ‘I Love You, You’re  Perfect, Now Change’, as it has offered the opportunity for us as performing students to use the skills and techniques that we have developed in our lectures to create a complete piece of  professional work.”

Lloyd Macey, first year BA Perfformio said: "The rehearsal process for ' I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' has been brilliant. This is thanks to the comedy included in all the songs and script. I have learned how to transfer my character’s element of humour and keep consistency between the singing and acting. My biggest challenge is to transfer two different characters whilst hopefully entertain the audience. I'm looking forward very much to perform with my fellow students and am hoping to see a full house in Chapter.”

The fundamental ethos of Canolfan Berfformio Cymru is to provide a solid technique along with a broad understanding of the creative industries in Wales and beyond.

Established by University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), The BA Perfformio course, now recruiting for September 2016, is an innovative and progressive course taught intensively over a period of two years by a combination of staff from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and experts working professionally in the areas of television, dance, entertainment, musicals and theatre. Due to the intensity of the course and the specialist training involved, please note that the number of places available annually on the course is limited.

The majority of the course is delivered in a dedicated arts centre in Cardiff, with a specified period spent on the Carmarthen Campus. There will also be an opportunity for students to spend time studying at a foreign university where a different perspective is provided on aspects of the creative industries.

The core of the course will be to develop the voice and body and around these modules, there will be an opportunity to focus on areas such as the actor’s craft, choreography, work experience and foreign study. The course is practical in nature with regular opportunities to perform and show progress. The course offers appropriate training that will give due attention to the individual artist’s progress and development by focussing on four aspects, the performer’s voice, body, mind and career.

During the two years, students have opportunities to develop a range of skills and an understanding of the industry which they need to foster to enable them to work professionally and to take advantage of the increasing demand for skilled, flexible and reliable performers who can combine acting and/or musical talent at the highest level.
