Reunion for former Trinity Students

Former students from Trinity College were welcomed back to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Carmarthen campus over the weekend to celebrate the annual alumni reunion. There were graduates present from the 1950s through to the 1990s, all enjoying each other’s company and sharing memories from their time at Trinity.

On Saturday evening, former students enjoyed a dinner at the Halliwell centre where they were welcomed by Gwilym Dyfri Jones, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor at UWTSD who updated guests on some of the exciting projects taking place across the University - including a multi-million pound development in the SA1 area of Swansea and the development of Canolfan S4C Yr Egin in Carmarthen, a centre that will be home to S4C’s main headquarters as well a cluster of companies and organisations from the creative industries.

The guest speaker - popular TV presenter and former Trinity student - Arfon Haines Davies, regaled guests with anecdotes from his time on the Carmarthen campus between 1966 and 1969. Arfon also entertained the audience with his top 10 memories of Trinity which many of the guests also shared. It was fitting that this very month marks 50 years since Arfon Haines Davies started his teacher training course at Trinity and he was delighted to return to the place that gave him the experience and confidence to embark on his successful career in the media industry.

A number of the first ever group of female students to have studied at Trinity in 1957 also attended the re-union as well as many couples who first met during their time at the college. It was evident from the evening that no matter which era they attended the college, their time at Trinity is remembered with fondness and happiness.

The reunion is an annual event with the next one planned for early September next year. If you attended Trinity and are interested in coming along to the event, why not contact your former classmates to attend together in 2017?
