UWTSD’s Creative Bubble entertained visitors to Swansea’s Festival of Transport

UWTSD’s Creative Bubble entertained visitors to Swansea’s Festival of Transport in the city centre at the weekend. The team of staff and students supported the event by entertaining visitors with their Summer Stage.

Local bands, singers and UWTSD students from both Swansea and Carmarthen campuses performed on Sunday. The Festival of Transport is a yearly event that sees thousands of visitors to Swansea City Centre. It is a large automotive celebration with a huge display of cars, vintage vehicles, trucks and vans to see.

Creative Bubble is a University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Swansea BID initiative. It was set up to encourage entrepreneurial thinking amongst students and to create events in the city centre that have a positive economic and social impact. Based in a retail unit in Cradock Street, students collaborate and run pop-up shops, exhibitions, performances, workshops and networking events. All of these increase their employability skills and raise awareness of UWTSD’s courses to the communities of Swansea.

Creative Bubble runs a Stage throughout the Summer months. With Santander as the main sponsor, it is also supported by UWTSD, Swansea BID and Swansea Council’s ‘Busk til Dawn’ scheme. The stage entertains shoppers with music, poetry and dance – often from UWTSD students and graduates.

The Stage is managed by two UWTSD students; Leif Thobroe who is studying a Masters of Business Administration on the Swansea campus, and Ben Gallagher a BA Business Management Degree student on the Carmarthen campus. They worked alongside Alan Waldron and Derek Palmer (both Performing Arts graduates) to make Sunday’s event a success. Popular Swansea jazz skiffle band The Gents performed alongside UWTSD students.

Lucy Beddall who manages the Creative Bubble project for UWTSD said : "It is great for our students to support events such as the Festival of Transport - it allows them to gain real work experience. UWTSD is very much part of Swansea City Centre and we enjoy being part of events that promote it.”

The Creative Bubble Summer Stage will be running July to September on selected Friday nights and Saturday afternoons.
