For the second year in a row, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David has won the prestigious ‘Course and Lecturers’ award at the annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs).

With the Awards ceremony being held online this year, it was also announced that UWTSD has won the ‘Accommodation’ award which is presented to the university that gives students the best ‘home away from home’.  UWTSD also secured 4th position and a top five finish in the ‘University of the Year’ category.  Other notable results included a strong 9th position for ‘Student Support’ and 13th for ‘Local life’.

Now in their seventh year, the WUSCAs recognise institutions for excellence in a wide variety of academic and social areas and offer prospective students a student-led alternative to traditional university ranking systems.  The Whatuni student rankings are based on averages taken from tens of thousands of reviews submitted by students and published on Whatuni.com.

Following the Awards Ceremony, a Spokesperson on behalf of Whatuni commented:

Winning for a second year in a row, University of Wales Trinity Saint David students are engaged and inspired by the learning that takes place at University. Having small class sizes means students feel supported every step of the way from their lecturers.

Climbing all the way to top, University of Wales Trinity Saint David was crowned the winner for Accommodation for the first time. Their student reviews for UWTSD’s accommodation reflected how safe the area is to live in, being located in a picturesque location which is never too far from the amenities students need.”

Dr Mirjam Plantinga, the University's Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Experience said: "We’re delighted to have won the ‘Course and Lecturers’ category for the second year running as this award recognises the quality of teaching and delivery of courses and assessments.  We also welcome the results in the ‘University of the Year’, ‘Student Support’ and ‘Accommodation’ categories. Our strong emphasis on personalised learning, small classes, student support and working together with our students in close partnership has been crucial to achieving these results.    The quality of the student experience is central to our mission."

Every UWTSD campus offers a different kind of student experience, although each with the same small and friendly, community feel.  Helen, who is studying Archaeology BA (Hons), added:

“Cost is excellent. And the rooms are in really good condition. The maintenance staff are friendly and really willing to help out with any problems.”

Daniel, Outdoor Adventure Education (BA), noted:

“I'm incredibly inspired by the knowledge my tutors have of the outdoors. The variety of practical and theory is excellent.”
