The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is holding a virtual taster day for Sixth formers.

Diwrnod Blasu Rhithiol

Mared Anthony and Luned George, the University's Senior Engagement and Recruitment Officers will be holding the first virtual taster day on Friday,  June 11th for around 100 year 12 pupils at Amman Valley School, Ammanford, and Ysgol Bro Pedr, Lampeter, and Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth in Cefneithin are planning to attend similar days in a few weeks' time.

This is the first event of its kind for the University to hold virtually. School taster events are usually held on University campuses, but as Covid-19 restrictions continue, it was decided to pilot the online event using the 'Unibuddy' platform. This virtual event is a great opportunity for year 12 pupils to start exploring higher education options."

As part of the taster day, pupils will have the opportunity to attend contemporary workshops on motivation and resilience, find out more about student life from a Student Ambassador, as well as developing study skills.

Pupils also have the opportunity to attend two taster sessions on subjects of their choice, which coincide with representation from each subject area offered by the University.

In addition, the 'Unibuddy' platform contains useful resources from the University for pupils to browse which will assist them with their journey towards higher education.

Luned George, Senior Engagement and Recruitment Officer, said: "We are very excited to be hosting the virtual taster events for year 12 pupils. It has been a really challenging time for these pupils and without higher education fairs, open days, and other live events to support them, the step and transition to higher education are more daunting.  Our aim during these events is to help students make informed decisions and to show what higher education and UWTSD can offer.  We are grateful to the University's fantastic academics for supporting the event offering a wide range of taster topics and to the schools for trusting us."

The University hopes to hold more similar events in the near future and welcome schools and colleges back to campus when it is safe to do so.
