Hannah Henson said: “From the continuation of Covid, the merging of the cost-of-living crisis, this year group experienced the intensity of the world through the lens of a Fine Art Degree. Through this course we were given the opportunity to understand and play with a broad spectrum of digital technology, yet we all individually, are still led by material processes. The real world takes precedent or merges with the digital world. A trait almost unheard of when speaking of my age group in other universities.

“Our year group has a vital connection with materials, I feel this close bond has brewed from the comfort and company our practises provided us throughout the collection of lockdowns. Many of us came to rely on and spend time with our practise as if it were a real living entity, finding solace and peace within our materials and our expression of self. Supported by the drive to be heard, the meanings we convey are individual, personal, and real.

“We have spent three years developing a greater understanding of various materials allowing us to explore new directions, resulting in painting, sculpture, and multimedia installations.”

Professor Sue Williams said: “Each student has found their creative voice, not simply in terms of materiality but also conceptually and philosophically. Noticeably this academic year, our students have welcomed collaboration as an approach to practice and these important dialogues may be witnessed alongside individual artworks within the exhibition.

“We have travelled through interesting and unprecedented times during Covid both online and in real space with our 3rd year students and they have approached these challenges with the greatest resilience and creative integrity. I wish them all the best for their exhibition opening. Well done!”

Caroline Thraves, Academic Director at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art said: “The Graduate Show is a celebration and culmination of students’ undergraduate and postgraduate study, where you will experience wonderful creativity across a wide variety of art and design subject areas. Art colleges change the world – our students, whose work you will see when you visit the show, will go on to change the world.”

You are welcome to come and witness our individual and collaborative visual worlds. The degree show takes place at Swansea college of Art, Dynevor Campus on May the 19th at 6pm and is the first in house exhibition post covid. Join us in celebrating each other, our place of learning and our unique community.

Drinks and catalogues will be offered on entry, free of charge.
