The very talented Olivia Sparkhall is Head of Academic Music at a secondary school in Salisbury, choir director of an award-winning ensemble, and an acclaimed composer. She can now add published author to the list of her accomplishments.

Olivia completed MA Professional Practice - Voice Pedagogy in 2020, a programme which is accredited by UWTSD’s Wales Academy for Professional Practice and Applied Research (WAPPAR) for the Voice Study Centre.

She was especially thrilled to have shared the news of this publishing with the University as it is based on research she undertook as part of her studies on the Masters course.

As she joined the course, her aim was to develop her expertise to be able to help young people reach their vocal potential.

She said: “The Voice Pedagogy course suited me well as it enabled me to specialise in particular areas relevant to my practice.”

MA Professional Practice - Voice Pedagogy is delivered fully online and enables professionals such as singing teachers, choral directors and speech and language therapists to apply theory to practice within the broad field of Voice Pedagogy. It explores the recent research into a number of different aspects including singing for health, vocal habilitation, acoustic pedagogy, and performance coaching.

Olivia's newly published book, A Young Person’s Guide to Vocal Health, aims to inform aspiring young actors and singers what they can do (and avoid) to maintain good vocal health with the aid of colourful diagrams and graphics.

It has been described as being a “valuable resource for young people…immensely practical, relevant and well-researched.”
